Once upon a time there was king of a great empire asked his closest of advisor, “O wise man what is the knowledge and how to differentiate between the right knowledge and the wrong ones”?. The advisor said O great king i can tell you but I can show you the answer so you can think about it and then can come to a conclusion and the king agreed. After one week when king and all the courtiers were sitting in the court the chief advisor came and he said he is ready with the answer and the king nodded as he was very much eager to know this. The advisor hence brought forth an elephant and several men with him. After sometime everybody realised that all the man were blind and they have not seen the light since they born. King was not prepared for the situation but advisor consoled him that this is the answer of all his questions and solution to all his problem. The advisor asked the blind men that, do they know about elephant and they answered in negative. Then advisor told them that there is an elephant in front of them and they can know about it by their own ways. And then the blind men started touching the elephant and exploring it. One man got the tail and he said elephant is like a rope. One man found the foot of the elephant and he proclaimed that the elephant is nothing else than a pillar or pole. One man got the belly and said its a wall. And hence everybody has their own experience with the elephant and they thought this is it.
And same is with our view of the creation and life. We get one part and think that this is it and we go with our own fluctuation and flirtations with the idea and put our own projection to the idea and color it with our desire and ambition. Then in the end that particular philosophy or view which was pure and clear is now completely lost in your mind and covered with your thoughts.
This same thing happened with spiritual sciences also, the whole philosophy is now covered with the ideas and thoughts of individuals and is not the same pure clear and practical philosophy once it was. This newborn modern philosophers and specially psychologist when they tried to understand this art as a bookish philosophy rather than the practical life science To start with we have to understand the basic idea of the yoga and tantra, two most important words in Indian traditional spirituality.
First of all you have to understand the phenomena of duality in our existence and as we see the world. Saints and sages told as we can know from own very experience that the basis of our very existence is duality i.e. “Dvaita”. There will be always two things in front of us. This mind will be always playing double role with us, the right and the wrong, the light and the darkness, pleasure and pain, happiness and sadness, life and death, and so on. And hence it will be always difficult to handle the mind, because its always going to extremes and in any given time it will be always seeing one side or one part but never the full view or the whole picture. And this partly view always creates confusion, anxiety and this state of imbalance and discontentment. When they started thinking deeply on this, there emerged the idea of Yoga the union. Yoga as the word itself means The Union. Now the question comes union of what! The Union of two sides or two part to get the whole view. Yoga is the first step to understand the creation thats why all the people who went beyond the normal perception of the world put so much insistence on the necessity of Yoga. All the saints and sages including Buddha always pushed us to reach moksha samadhi or nirvana. But again the whole view of every existing phenomena i.e. Yoga is not the end, because again when you get the whole picture the mind and world or Samsara as they said it, you get a new view of things and now again theres another kind of duality in it.
This new duality, which begins in the state of samadhi or nirvana is very dynamic phenomena. Now here comes the concept of Tantra. Tantra is the combination of two root words, “Tanoti” meaning expansion and “Trayati” meaning liberation. Then again question arises liberation and expansion but of what! Now to understand this phenomena of Tantra you again need this concept of Shiva and Shakti or the consciousness and the energy.
