The SWAN campus is more than its Yoga shalas and accommodation.
Spread across the natural hillside in Assagao, North Goa, the campus has gardens, mature trees, a temple, an Ayurvedic garden, open spaces and quiet corners where guests can walk, sit, read or simply enjoy being surrounded by nature.
Each part of the campus has its own character. Together they create the relaxed residential atmosphere that is central to the SWAN experience.

Where the garden meets the forest
At SWAN, the boundary between the garden and the surrounding tropical landscape is deliberately difficult to define.
The campus is surrounded by mature trees and natural vegetation, and over the years we have planted many native trees, plants, flowers and shrubs to add to the greenery.
The result is a lush tropical garden in the middle of the natural landscape of Assagao, where birdsong, breeze, shade and changing light are part of everyday life.
We also grow some of the vegetables, fruits and herbs used in our kitchen. What is available changes with the season, but when produce comes directly from our garden to the kitchen, there is something particularly satisfying about knowing where it came from. You will notice the difference between the sweet papayas from our garden and the ones bought at the market.
For guests staying at SWAN, the garden is not simply something to look at. It is part of the environment in which you practise Yoga, receive Ayurveda treatments, eat, walk and rest.
A Living Part of the Campus
The gardens provide quiet spaces between the cottages and practice areas, creating a sense of openness throughout the campus.
You may find yourself walking through the garden after a Yoga class, sitting beneath a tree between treatments, or simply taking a slow walk without having anywhere to go.
This is one of the qualities we value most about SWAN: nature is part of everyday life rather than a backdrop to the retreat.

A Space for the Guru Principle
At the heart of the SWAN campus is a small temple dedicated to the Guru principle.
In the Yoga tradition, Guru is understood as the principle that guides the movement from darkness towards knowledge and from confusion towards greater clarity.
The temple is therefore a place of remembrance, respect and contemplation.
It reminds us that the Guru principle is not limited to a particular person. The potential for knowledge, awareness and inner guidance exists within every human being.
The temple provides a quiet space on the campus for personal reflection and traditional practices.
Havan and Kirtan
The temple is also where our traditional Havan and Kirtan take place on Saturday and Sunday evenings.
Havan is the traditional Vedic fire ceremony, while Kirtan is the practice of devotional chanting.
These gatherings are part of the spiritual and cultural life of SWAN and are open to guests who wish to participate. More about the Havan and Kirtan.

We are not on the beach, so we brought the beach here.
Yes, it is actually called the Fake Beach.
SWAN is in the hills of Assagao rather than directly on the beach, so we decided that if we could not have a beach outside the campus, we could at least have a little fun creating our own.
There is sand, lounge seating, umbrellas and a Juice Bar serving fresh juices and simple refreshments.
It is a place to stretch out between classes, sit with a book, meet other guests, enjoy a coffee or simply do absolutely nothing for a while.
And yes, there is even a little rainwater shower for cooling down.
The Fake Beach is deliberately a little quirky. After all the Yoga philosophy, meditation and Ayurvedic treatments, sometimes you just need somewhere to put your feet in the sand.
There is also a small boutique with simply elegant dresses and tops for women, designed by our own Silje and made locally in Mapusa from 100% Indian cotton.
A Little Space for Doing Nothing
Not every moment at a retreat needs to be purposeful.
The Fake Beach is there for those unstructured moments when you want to sit in the sun, read something completely unrelated to Patanjali, have a fresh juice or chat with another guest.
It is part of the lighter, more playful side of life at SWAN.
Experience the SWAN Campus
SWAN is designed as a place to live as well as practise.
You stay within the campus, eat food prepared from local and seasonal ingredients, practise Yoga in open sided shalas, experience traditional Ayurveda, walk through tropical gardens and have spaces where you can simply slow down.
Located in Assagao, North Goa, Goa, India, the campus offers a different kind of retreat experience: traditional Yoga and Ayurveda within a natural residential environment. You can explore Yoga retreats or explore Ayurveda retreats.

And somewhere in the middle of it all, there is a Fake Beach.
Because a retreat can be serious about Yoga without taking itself too seriously. The campus is open from October through May. Tell us your dates and we will tell you what is available.
