The art of meditation.

This is a rare and deeply immersive Meditation and Tantra Training in Goa, designed for sincere seekers who wish to explore the inner dimensions of Yoga, meditation and Tantra through direct experience. The approach is practical, experiential and traditional, with the emphasis placed firmly on practice rather than theory.

The training provides an opportunity to step away from the demands and distractions of everyday life and turn attention inward. Through Pratyahara, Dharana, Mantra, Japa, Meditation and Tantrik practices, participants gradually explore the relationship between the body, senses, mind and awareness.

In the classical Yoga and Tantra traditions, meditation is not simply a technique for relaxation. It is a process of developing a quieter, subtler and more refined awareness through which one can investigate the nature of the mind and the deeper dimensions of consciousness. This understanding cannot be gained through intellectual study alone. It has to be experienced through sustained practice.

The approach at SWAN is therefore experiential, traditional and practice based. Over two weeks, the intensive creates the time and environment needed to establish a deeper rhythm of meditation and spiritual practice, with daily practice and study, Havan and Kirtan on Saturday and Sunday evenings, and periods of silence and self reflection.

What you will study

  • The theory and practice of meditation in the classical tradition
  • Tantra: what it actually is, awareness and liberation, not what the word has come to suggest
  • Dharana and Pratyahara: concentration and the withdrawal of the senses
  • Antar Mouna and the stages of inner silence
  • Trataka, and other concentration practices
  • Mantra, Japa and the use of sound
  • Yoga Nidra
  • Havan, the sacred Tantrik fire ritual, on Saturday and Sunday evenings
  • Kirtan and devotional practice
  • A personal doctor consultation
  • Asana and Pranayama as preparation for meditation

What you will be able to do

This two week intensive is designed to give you something practical that you can carry beyond SWAN: the ability to establish, understand and sustain your own meditation practice. Rather than simply learning about meditation, you will spend two weeks practising traditional Yogic and Tantrik methods under guidance, experiencing how different techniques affect the body, senses, mind and awareness, and learning how they can be brought together into a coherent personal practice.

By the end of the training, you will be able to establish and maintain a personal meditation practice based on traditional Yogic and Tantrik methods. You will have practical experience with Pratyahara and Dharana, learning to gradually turn the senses inward and develop steadiness and concentration, together with Antar Mouna, Trataka, Mantra, Japa, Yoga Nidra and Tantrik Meditation techniques.

You will learn how to use Mantra and Japa as meditation practices, including the principles of Beeja Mantra Sadhana for Chakras, and gain a practical understanding of how sound, awareness, concentration and inner observation are used within the Tantrik tradition.

You will also be able to bring meditation, Pranayama and appropriate Asana together into a structured personal practice, work with periods of silence and self reflection, and develop a clearer understanding of how different practices can be used at different stages of your meditation journey.

The purpose of the training is not to make you a meditation or Tantra teacher in two weeks. It is to give you the knowledge, practical experience and foundation to continue your own practice independently, with a clear understanding of what you are practising, why you are practising it and how the different Yogic and Tantrik practices relate to one another.

If you already teach

For those who already teach Yoga, meditation or Tantra, the training can provide an additional dimension to your existing knowledge and practice, giving you new experiences and perspectives that can enrich the way you share these traditions within your own teaching and community.

★★★★★
“I participated in the Swan Yoga Christmas Retreat for two weeks, and I honestly couldn’t be more satisfied with my experience. From the very first day, the overall feeling was overwhelmingly positive. Everyone at Swan is genuinely kind, caring, and welcoming — I truly felt like part of a family. I was recommended this retreat by a friend, and it exceeded all my expectations. This is a real yoga experience, deeply rooted in the original traditions of yoga. The devoted teachers guided us through meditation, asana practice, yoga nidra, yoga philosophy and kriya yoga with warmth, patience, and kindness, helping me deepen my understanding of yoga and its roots in a meaningful and authentic way. Beyond the yoga practice, I had the opportunity to experience Ayurvedic treatments that supported my holistic well-being. I had a consultation with the doctor on the arrival day, and a personalized treatment plan was created to support my individual needs. I enjoyed the treatments and the feeling afterwards so much that I ended up to have one treatment every single day. The amazing vegetarian food served every day was nourishing, delicious, and thoughtfully prepared — a true pleasure for both body and senses. I feel incredibly grateful to have experienced this retreat and highly recommend Swan to anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of yoga, and feel good both inside and out. A heartfelt thank you to the entire Swan team. I can’t wait to return!”
